New Course: Scientific Oral Presentations (MC280P84)
Starting in the winter semester 2025, our department will offer a new modular, active learning course: Scientific Oral Presentations (MC280P84) by Dr. Carlos Melo.
The course consists of twelve weekly lessons (90 minutes each) devoted to designing and delivering effective scientific talks, as well as developing verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Each lesson combines a student-led activity (conference talk, poster presentation, elevator pitch, media interview, job talk, science outreach, etc.) with an instructor’s mini-lecture on best practices in scientific communication.
Classes begin on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 9:50–11:20 am, room 304B, Chemistry building (Hlavova 8, Albertov campus).
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Prepare and deliver scientific presentations with clear structure and effective visuals.
- Apply storytelling, slide design, and communication strategies.
- Engage audiences through strong verbal and non-verbal skills.
- Gain confidence in various real-life communication contexts.
Active participation is required throughout the semester. Students will receive feedback from both peers and the instructor, culminating in final presentations at the end of the course.
