České hlavičky Award goes to our student

The absolvent of the Roudnice nad Labem gymnaisum and now our first year student Yuliia Husak has won the prestigious award České hlavičky in the INTENTIO category – Charles University Award for "Sustainable Development".

In her research, she focuses on the sustainable conversion of plant biomass (such as straw or wood waste) into biofuels, plastics, or pharmaceuticals, thereby helping reduce the chemical industry's dependence on fossil fuels. The core of her work lies in the research of porous materials—specifically zeolites—and the use of metal nanoparticles (nickel and ruthenium) as highly efficient catalysts.

Yuliia got involved in research during a summer internship at the Faculty of Science, Charles University. She conducted her SOČ (High School Student Research) project in the research group of Prof. Jiří Čejka under the supervision of Dr. Michal Mazur and Bc. Samuel Kolesár. She is now continuing her research with the same team as part of the Techscale project alongside her university studies.

Congratulations. We wish Yuliia good luck in your future research.
